HC stays appointments of 6,531 primary teachers

The High Court today stayed a government decision to grant appointment letters to 6,531 candidates who qualified for the post of assistant teachers of government primary schools.
The HC passed the stay order as their recruitment process was completed under the quota system which was scrapped by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in July this year, Deputy Attorney General Nur Mohammad Azami told The Daily Star.
The HC also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain why the appointment process of 6,531 candidates should not be scrapped as the process was made following the quota system.
The HC bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi issued the order and rule following a writ petition filed by 30 candidates challenging the legality of the government decision to grant appointment letters to 6,531 candidates who qualified in the third phase for the post of assistant teachers of government primary schools.
The appointment letters were supposed to be given to these 6,531 teachers from tomorrow, the petitioners’ lawyer Barrister Foez Uddin Ahmed told The Daily Star.
